When you visualize your physical health 10 years from now what do you see? How are your current habits contributing to being able to move well and without stiffness and pain for the next 10-20-30 years of your life?
Aging...when your first movements getting out of bed are a little slower. You think, is this arthritis? How am I going to stop it? Who do I call for treatment? What medicine do I take? Why does that little back tweak from lifting a heavy grocery bag now turn into a week of low back pain and difficulty getting out of a chair?
This course is designed for you! As a Doctor of Physical Therapy for 10 years I have seen countless men and women in your shoes. I will help you get ahead of the curve and learn how to care for your body and maintain your vitality. As with anything in life, the habits and work you do now will pay off contributing to your energy and strength in the long run.
By the end of the course, you will:
Feel strong and agile in your body
Be tuned in and listening to what your body needs to feel good
Self-treat daily stiffness and soreness with targeted exercises instead of over the counter medication
Feel confident attending an appropriate yoga class, modify poses to meet your individual needs and add yoga to your weekly exercise routine
Be able to implement stress relief practices to treat pain and restlessness
Know how and when to seek help from your doctor, trainer, yoga instructor, coach on an injury or discomfort you are dealing with
Be empowered to stand and sit up tall with healthy posture
Over the course of 8 weeks, we’ll move through the entire body, giving you a thorough understanding of how the body works as a system and why gaining strength and movement will be the catalyst to greater physical freedom as you age. Each week we'll address one core area, learning about it's important role in your body, how to use specific yoga and physical therapy practices to both prevent and treat pain, and give you a specific series of poses or stretches you can use anytime at home. Our small class size is intentionally designed to provide personalized and specific feedback throughout the course. Classes will include at least 45 minutes of guided yoga practice. Participants must be able to get up and down from the floor on their own, balance on 1 foot at a time in an open space and have a moderate to high level fitness base (if that is a question for you please email and inquire prior to registering). This class is appropriate for all yoga levels, including beginners. Participants will need to wear comfortable clothing for yoga, bring water and a yoga mat. Participants can bring a notebook to take notes or can shoot video of exercises on their mobile phone.

Understand what makes up the “core” of our body and why it is so important
Week 2 - JUNE 11
Topic: Posture Police
Understand what is healthy seated and standing posture and why it’s important
Week 3 - JUNE 25
Topic: Grounded to Heal & Pain in the Neck No More
Understand what contributes to neck tension and how to relieve neck tension and pain
Review stress relief techniques that can help decrease muscle tension and prepare the body for healing
Week 4 - JULY 9
Topic: Free your Hips
Understand how hip tightness limits everyday movement and contributes to low back pain
Week 5 - JULY 16
Topic: Strong Arms and Shoulders
Understand how to move safely through the shoulders and what muscles are the most important for lifting, pushing, pulling activities
Week 6 - JULY 23
Topic: Healthy Knees
Understand proper knee alignment with squatting and bending to take pressure off of knees
Week 7 - JULY 30
Topic: Balance Through the Feet
Understand feet as the foundation and connection to all movement and balance
Week 8 - AUGUST 6
Topic: Injury Prevention and Review of Mindfulness
Understand how when performed properly and respecting each person’s unique body, yoga can be a beneficial low impact exercise that can be practiced into 90 years old to prevent chronic pain and injury

The Keys to Moving Well Through Life is an organized, comprehensive, high quality exercise and education course. Class size is no more than 12 students. Participant questions and open discussion are valued and encouraged. Individualized feedback will be provided.
Investment is $400 for 8 - 90 minute sessions over the course of two months.
